The church ‘La Mare de Déu del Consol’ greets the visitors of the town Altea (21.000 inhabitants) from a distance with the beaming azure of its cupolas. However, renowned is Collosa for its freshwater fonts and several basins which are fed
by the creek Algar and in which you can take a bath.

Calpe

After an eventful history as Roman naval base, seat of a Moorish Taifa kingdom and a Spanish margraviate, Dénia (60.000 inhabitants) today is capital of the Comarca (=district) Marina Alta of the province of Alicante.

Windmühlen

windmills

Many roads lead from Jàvea to Dénia – one of the most beautiful coils up and down in narrow serpentines – past several old windmills – through the coastel mountain range– with impressive views over the Montgó (750 Meter in height, botanical reserve of the region Valencia) and the bays of Jávea and Dénia.

A side trip to Cap Sant Antonio (nature protection area, too) is rewarded by an amazing panoramic view over the bay of Jávea.

marina Dénia

fishing port Dénia
In Dénia, strolling through the elegant malls, lined with shady trees (e.g. the ‘Paseo de Saladar’, ‘ Marqués de Campo’...) , or the new, exclusive marina and traditional fishing port, the fishermen’s quarter ‘Baix la Mar’ and the fish auction hall , as well as the castle, built in the 11 th and 12 th century by the Moors upon a former Roman site and harbouring today the archaeological / ethnological museum of Dénia are very entertaining and relaxing leisure activities.
Dénia

From Dénia ferries leave for the Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Mallorca.

More places of interest: the baroque church of assumption (Iglesia de la Asunción), 18th century, and the church of Saint Antony (Iglesia de San Antonio), 17 th century, as well as the Augustinian convent, founded in the year 1609.

A few driving minutes away from Balcon al Mar you can take a bath or swim in the romantic bay of Granadella - though the crystal clear turquoise water of this site is also particularly inviting for diving and snorkelling.

Gata de Gorgos : Guitar factory at the station. You can watch the production and buy instruments. Along the main street of the village, a wide range of wickerwork and wicker furniture is sold.

Guadalest : is a historical mountain village, some 580 meters altitude with a spectacular location above a water reservoir/artificial lake.

Turning away from the hustle and bustle of the coast-line’s holiday and everyday life towards the heartland, you can still watch and experience the pristine, contemplative, Spanish rural life. Extensive fruit orchards and vineyards form the landscape.
Experience the revival of nature, the beautiful Spanish springtime, scenting and tasting (honey!) of orange and almond blossoms on a trip to Xalon, into the:

Jalon Valley : important wine-growing district (take part in a wine tasting!), white and
pink almond blossoms in January / February.

There’s a unique panoramic view from the 980 m high ‚Coll de Rates’ over the whole Jalon valley. There’s a popular antiques and car boot sale in town every Saturday.

Moraira
The former fishermen’s village Moraira, nowadays decisively influenced by tourism, and belonging to the village of Teulada, some 4 km upcountry, has a small Old Town, a picturesque marina with several coffee houses, restaurants and natural beaches. Rocky bays and sandy beaches alternate. The watchtower of the Cap d' Or and the castle ruin
on the beach are considered to be the town’s landmark. Altogether, almost 15.000 people live in Moraira – Teulada today, whereof 50 % are Spaniards, the other half being English, German, Swiss, Dutch, French, South American, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish.

At Vergel a safari-park can be visited.
